A. Admit Your Need for God.
“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23. When we admit our sin and desire to turn from it to Jesus, we have taken the first step toward salvation and eternal life.
B. Believe in Jesus as Lord.
Believing in Jesus is more than just knowing certain facts. Believing means accepting the fact that Jesus died on a cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day. Believing means that we trust our life totally to Him, and are willing for Him to be in control. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” – Acts 16:31
C. Confess Jesus as Your Lord and Savior.
Confession involves declaring your allegiance and devotion to Jesus. “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” – Romans 10:9-10
D. Decide to Follow Jesus.
Every commitment in life begins with a decision. Jesus himself challenged people to put aside all other loyalties and follow only him. “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23
If you would like to enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ, all you have to do is ask Him through prayer. Read the following prayer, and see if it expresses the desire of your heart.
“Dear God, I now know that Jesus is Your Son and that he died on the cross and was raised from the dead. Because I have sinned and need forgiveness, I ask Jesus to be my Savior and Lord. I am willing to change the direction of my life by acknowledging Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and by turning away from my sins. Thank you for giving me forgiveness, eternal life, and hope for today and all my tomorrows. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”
Use this prayer if it expresses your belief, or pray a similar prayer in your own words, committing your life to Jesus and asking Him for His gift of eternal life.
